U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Announces Appointment of Three New Members

January 12, 2021 — The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (Task Force) announced today the addition of three new members: Esa Davis, M.D., M.P.H., Li Li, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., and James Stevermer, M.D., M.S.P.H. They are appointed to serve 4-year terms beginning in January 2021.

Dr. Davis is an associate professor of medicine and clinical and translational science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Tobacco Treatment Service. She is the associate director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s KL2 Scholars’ Program and director of the Career Education and Enhancement for Health Career Research Diversity Program at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Davis’s research areas of interest include understanding perinatal determinants of maternal obesity and associated adverse health outcomes and improving treatment strategies for tobacco use disorder in both hospitalized and presurgical patients.

Dr. Li is a board-certified family physician and the Walter M. Seward professor and chair of family medicine at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine. He is also director of population health at UVA Health and leader of the Cancer Control and Population Health program at the UVA Cancer Center. Dr. Li’s research integrates genomic discoveries and population studies with a focus on colorectal cancer etiology, risk assessment, early detection, and prevention, and cancer health disparities. His research has been funded by the Damon-Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, the National Cancer Institute, and the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Stevermer is vice chair for clinical affairs and professor of family and community medicine at the University of Missouri (MU). He is the medical director of MU Health Care Family Medicine–Callaway Physicians. He is also the medical director for a local nursing home and the county ambulance district. His clinical practice is in Fulton, Missouri, a city of about 14,000 population, where he has practiced medicine since residency. His research focuses on evidence-based medicine, guideline development and evaluation, and the translation of clinical research into practice. He has written and edited for the Family Physicians Inquiry Network and was an associate editor at the Journal of Family Practice.
